Privacy Policy
Who is responsible
Yester (“we”), which operates the Yester app and getyester.com from Colorado, United States, is responsible for the personal information described here. Email hi@getyester.com for privacy questions or requests. This policy describes the current free app. It explains our practices; it is not consent to marketing, tracking or unrelated uses.
Account information
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive an account identifier and, depending on that provider and your choices, your name, email and profile image information. Apple may give us a private relay email address instead of your own. Supabase processes authentication and stores account records, including sign-in-related metadata. We use this information to authenticate you, display your account and associate your saved stories and feedback. We do not receive your Apple or Google password. Session credentials are stored in encrypted storage on your device to keep you signed in.
Saved stories, preferences and requests
Saved-story records are linked to your account in Supabase and cached on your device. Appearance and other local app state are stored on the device. The app sends content identifiers, selected filters and your app language to our backend to retrieve stories and images in that language. To understand how Yester is used and improve it, the app also sends usage events, such as stories opened or finished, searches, time spent in the app and settings changed, together with a random identifier created on your device. These events do not include your name, email or advertising identifier, are not used for advertising and are not combined with data from other apps. If the app crashes or a story fails to load, it also sends a short error report (the error type and message, the app version and, for crashes, the device's crash diagnostics) through the same analytics service, so we can fix the problem. You can turn usage analytics and error reports off at any time under Account, Usage analytics. To order the For you feed and choose your daily story, the app also sends short lists of stories you saved, finished or took a quiz on; these personalization signals are kept on your device and are not stored with your account. Our hosting and delivery providers receive network information such as IP address, request time and user-agent or device information as part of delivering and securing the service. Signing out does not erase every local cache. Historical content in the shared catalog is separate from private account records.
Quizzes and waitlists
Quiz results (your answers, score, points and time) are linked to your account in Supabase and cached on your device so you can see them under Account. If you join a waitlist for a feature that is not available yet, such as audio stories, we record your account, the story where you joined and the date. We use the email address on your account to send you one message when that feature launches, and the app may show you a notice. We do not use the waitlist for marketing. You can ask to be removed at hi@getyester.com.
Feedback
If you submit Feedback, we store your message, account identifier, submission time, platform (iOS) and app version in Supabase. We use these records for support, corrections, abuse prevention and product improvements. They are not publicly visible. The form does not automatically attach screenshots, your reading history or passwords. Do not include sensitive information. Feedback is not automatically sent to Gemini. Authorized operators can review it in our administrative tools; there is no public feedback feed.
Image reports
If you report a problem with an image (for example copyright, attribution or privacy), we store the email you enter, the reason, your explanation and the image concerned in Supabase. You do not need an account. We use this only to review the image, reply to you and keep a record of the decision, and we limit how often reports can be sent to prevent abuse. Reports are retained while needed to resolve the issue and document it.
AI-assisted editorial work and external sources
Historical editorial workflows may use AI tools, such as Google Gemini, to research, draft, check or translate content before publication; these tools work on the story catalog, not on your account data. These workflows are distinct from Google account sign-in. The feedback form and bookmark functions do not send your messages or saved-story list to Gemini. Opening a source, license or other external link connects you to a third-party website, which may collect information under its own policy. Some external media requests may also disclose your IP address and request information to the receiving provider. Source links are not an endorsement of those providers’ privacy practices.
How information is shared
We use Supabase for authentication, database and storage; Apple and Google for sign-in; Google Gemini for editorial AI work on the story catalog; PostHog for product analytics; and Railway and Vercel for hosting. Providers process the information needed for their functions under their agreements with us. We may disclose information when the law requires it, to protect people or the service, or as part of a reorganization, merger or sale of the service, with notice to you. We do not sell personal information, do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising and do not show targeted ads. Yester does not request access to your contacts, precise location, microphone, camera or photo library.
Storage, retention and security
We use access controls, authenticated requests and encryption mechanisms to help protect information, but no service can guarantee absolute security. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate; their laws may differ from yours. Account and saved-story records are retained while needed to provide your account. Feedback and operational records are retained as needed to investigate and resolve issues, protect the service and meet legal obligations, then deleted or de-identified. Backups and provider security logs may persist for their applicable retention periods. A fixed automated retention schedule is not yet enabled; we review records and deletion requests manually. Shared historical articles and properly de-identified information may remain after an account is removed.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
Where these laws apply, we process your account, saved stories, quiz results and waitlist entry to provide the service you asked for (contract); usage analytics, security and abuse prevention for our legitimate interest in running and improving a safe service, which you can object to by turning analytics off; notifications with your consent, which you can withdraw in the app or in iOS Settings; and records we must keep to comply with the law. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Your choices and privacy requests
You can remove saved stories in the app, change appearance, sign out and manage sign-in permissions in your Apple or Google account. To request access, correction, a copy or deletion of personal information, email hi@getyester.com, preferably from your account email. We may request proportionate verification before acting; never send your password. We will respond within the period required by applicable law and explain any lawful exception. Depending on your location and whether the law applies to Yester, additional rights may include an appeal or a complaint to a regulator. Send appeals to the same address with “Privacy appeal” in the subject. We do not penalize you for exercising applicable rights. You can delete your account in the app under Account management. Deletion removes your account, profile, saved stories, reading progress, quiz results, waitlist entries and the feedback messages you sent, and clears that account's data cached on the device. You can also email us to request deletion.
Children and sensitive information
Yester is not meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age in their country to use online services without a parent’s consent (up to 16 in parts of Europe). We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact hi@getyester.com and we will delete it. Do not send medical, financial, government-identity or other sensitive information through Feedback or reports.
Notifications and language
Notifications are optional and off until you turn them on. Yester schedules them on your device, at the times you choose: a story chosen for you each day, and, the day after you read a series chapter, the chapter that follows. To choose the daily stories, the app asks our backend for the top of your For you feed, using the same short lists of stories described above, and skips stories you have already read. The app shows stories in English or Spanish, following your device or per-app language setting; some stories may appear in English until they are translated.
Policy updates
The date at the top identifies the latest revision. We will give appropriate notice of material changes, in the app or by email, and ask for your permission where required before using information in a new way. The current app is free and does not collect payment information.
